Ajax Cape Town have lost out on the services of former Man City striker Benjani Mwaruwari who has opted to sign for Chippa United until the end of the season
Chippa United have moved quicker to acquire the signature of former Manchester City striker Benjamin “Benjani” Mwaruwari, a few days after their neighbours Ajax Cape Town announced that the Zimbabwean is training with them.
Benjani apparently played in Ajax's friendly match on Monday afternoon, and the clubs chairman George Comitis wasn't convinced. However, Chippa United grabbed the opportunity, and signed Mwaruwari who could be useful to the Chilli Boys’ hopes of relegation survival.
Chippa United Pro Lukanyo Mzinzi confirmed the news to Goal.com on Wednesday morning, and revealed that they have an option to renew Benjani’s contract, that expires at the end of the current season.
“I can confirm that Benjani has signed with Chippa for the remainder of the season with an option to renew for a year,” said Lukanyo Mzinzi.
United coach Wilfred Mugeyi is believed to have played a huge role in bringing Benjani to his team, as he is believed to be a great admirer of the former Blackburn Rovers striker.
