May Mahlangu’s proposed move to Ligue 1 football is still on the cards, but Valenciennes is adamant that Helsingborg’s asking price is too steep.
The midfielder has prospered in Sweden and is considered one of the most valuable players in the Swedish top-flight.
The player was set for a move during the January transfer window with a number of clubs interested in gaining his services in the midfield including Valenciennes and unnamed Turkish clubs, but there were no completed deals.
Mahlangu’s excellent displays during the Africa Cup of Nations has merely fuelled the initial fire surrounding the player, as Valenciennes stepped up their interest following the tournament hosted in South Africa.
His pace in the middle of the park, coupled with his ability to net spectacular goals has meant the midfielder will continue to attract interest in top European leagues.
French media have claimed that Malhangu is Valenciennes’ number one target for next season, but the Ligue 1 side did not agree with an unknown asking price for the Bafana star, according to the Sowetan.
The club is hoping Mahlangu’s price will decrease in June as he enters his final six months of his contract in Sweden, which will force Helsingborg to sell in order to stop the player from leaving for free.
