The Bafana Bafana and Platinum Stars midfielder Thuso Phala is not joining Kaizer Chiefs, as previous reports suggested, according to his agent Tim Sukazi.
Sukazi revealed that there hasn’t been any formal offer from Chiefs, and that they are looking to secure a European contract for Phala, who has found his form at Platinum Stars.
“I only read that on papers (that Chiefs want Phala). There haven’t been formal talks with Chiefs about Thuso (Phala),” said Sukazi.
“It is too early to reveal their names, but I can confirm that there are two teams that are seriously interested in the player, and those teams are from Germany,” he said.
The news will come as no surprise to Platinum Stars fans, as coach Cavin Johnson made it clear during the January transfer window, that they will not entertain local offers for Thuso Phala, and that they will only consider offers from European clubs.
Phala’s career never reached expectations when he joined Chiefs in 2007, and in 2009 he struggled at Mamelodi Sundowns.
He then went back to Platinum Stars in 2010 where he has blossomed under coach Cavin Johnson. This summer he has won several caps in the Bafana squad coached by Gordon Igesund, where he's been arguably South Africa's most consistent attacking force, down the wing.
