Worried Hunt wants SuperSport to start finishing their opportunities
SuperSport United beat the Moroka Swallows 5-3 on penalties to book their place in the last 16 of this year’s competition
SuperSport United are determined to become the first team to defend the Nedbank Cup title, which they won last season. Matsatsantsa beat Moroka Swallows 5-3 on penalties, after the game ended 0-0 with the 120 minutes of play.
United coach Gavin Hunt admitted that their game against Swallows was too tight, and that his team didn’t play well in the opening half. However, he was pleased with what he saw in the last 45 minutes.
“It wasn’t much of an exciting game. It was hard to watch, but I thought we played well in the second half. Nonetheless, it’s about getting through,” Hunt said after the match.
Hunt was happy to progress to the next stage of the competition, but believes they should score more goals if they are to continue playing in this tournament.
“Cup competitions are about getting through. It would be worrying if we were playing in the league missing opportunities like these, but we got to start scoring goals,” he said.
On one hand, Swallows coach Zeca Marques revealed that he was delighted with the good performance displayed by his players, and admitted that one team had to go through, as the game went to penalties.
“Look, when you get to the penalties, anything can happen. It’s a lottery. You give and take. Unfortunately it went SuperSport’s way, but overall I am delighted with the performance. It was a typical club match situation with a lot of chances from both sides. Unfortunately we got knocked out on penalties,” said Marquez after the match.
Matsatsantsa join neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns, Maluti FET College, and NFD side United FC in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.
