Orlando Pirates secured a thumping 5-0 win over Djabal FC in their opening match of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Saturday night.
Four goals form Takesure Chinyama and a goal from Sifiso Myeni will give Pirates ample breathing space as they head into the second leg of the tie, which has allowed Roger de Sa time to focus on the PSL campaign as his side face an inspired Platinum Stars outfit in a crunch league clash,
Pirates dominated proceedings against a largely unknown force from the Comoros, with Myeni opening the scoring in the 25th minute. Following the opener it was Chinyama's time to shine as the Zimbabwean international began to find the net at will, his first goal socred eight minutes after Myeni's opener.
At half-time the Bucs were leading 2-0 and put their opponents to the sword in the second stanza, with Chinyama netting on three more occasions.
Siyabonga Sangweni, Happy Jele and Collins Mbesuma were all rested against Djabal FC, which means they will be fresh for Pirates' next PSL match.
“We rested the three players for a reason, but we also had to be careful not to weaken the side too much,” De Sa said after the match.
“We need these players for our PSL matches and the scoreline means we can fully focus on the PSL. We will be going into our second leg match with no pressure.”
