The pick of South Africa’s overseas midfielders will be in action this weekend, as Dean Furman is set to police Steven Pienaar during Oldham Athletic’s FA Cup tie against Everton
It will be a clash of the new and the old this weekend as recently retired Steven Pienaar faces Dean Furman during a FA Cup match on Saturday.
Furman returned to Oldham Athletic after a superb Africa Cup of Nations for South Africa and will be tasked with keeping his former teammate quiet. Pienaar has been in prolific form this season and Furman will have to be at his best in order to stop Everton's creative spark.
Oldham defeated Liverpool 3-2 on their road to the fifth round of the tournament and will target yet another shock victory over the Toffees.
Other English-based South African players in action include Kagisho Dikgacoi, who will take part in Crystal Palace’s Championship fixture against Middlesbrough on Saturday, with the Eagles still in with a chance of making the promotion playoffs. David Somma will be gearing up for Leeds United’s clash against Premier League giants Manchester City in the FA Cup.
Bongani Khumalo’s PAOK still sit second on the Greek Super League log and face a tough outing against AEK Athens on Saturday. Khumalo will be confident that he can continue providing a strong defensive presence for his side.
Thulani Serero will hope that Ajax give him a chance to prove his fitness as they face RKC Waalwjik in the Eredivise. Ajax trail leaders PSV by three points in the league standings with the two clubs setting up an exciting run-in.
In Belgium, Ayanda Patosi will be in action for Lokeren FC. Lokeren is searching to cement their position in the top four of the PRO League and trail leaders Anderlecht by 14 points. Anele Ngongca’s Genk will face Darren Keet’s Kortijk on Sunday with both players hoping to help their sides improve their current league positions.
