Platinum Stars began the second half of the season with same kind of flair and confidence they have shown throughout the 2012/2013 campaign during a commanding 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic.

Cavin Johnson’s outfit are aiming to finish in the top five this season, yet sit merely three points below league leaders Orlando Pirates. They next face Ajax Cape Town and will be out for revenge, as the Urban Warriors crushed Dikwena 4-1 in the reverse fixture in August last year.

The difference between then and now will be the confidence and the belief which has spread throughout the squad, an attitude which has seen them dominate many a side during the PSL campaign.

Star winger Thuso Phala told Backpage Txt, "We are very confident. The win against Celtic was very important and a big booster for us. From the start of the season we were aiming for a top five place in the standings.

"Not much has changed from last season, but our goal was to collect as many points at home and challenge them away from home. So far so good for us."

Phala believes that Platinum Stars home form will stand them in good stead against Jan Versjielen’s side.

"We have been especially strong at home and it is really good to have collected the points there. Now, we just have to continue and move forward from there.

“We lost the first leg to Ajax and it is never nice losing twice. They will come here and we will give them a run for their money.

"We will be playing at home and it will be hot for them, which will make it difficult. Hopefully we will get the three points."

Ajax Cape Town sit 14th on the PSL log and was unlucky not to pick up the three points against Moroka Swallows in their first fixture back from the mid-season break.

Jan Versleijen was impressed with his charges efforts against the Dube Birds but will want a more composure as they face a tough outing against third placed Platinum Stars. He has looked to the youngsters in his squad to perform and will continue to place his faith in the likes of Keegan Dolly, Toriq Losper, Travis Graham and Thato Mokeke.

“I don’t care if they are 16, or 36, I’ll make the choice what I think is the best team. The only way to develop young players is to let them play,” Versleijen said.

New signing Abia Nale will want to make an impression against Dikwena as he looks to add a clinical and experienced attacking influence to the young Urban Warriors side.

  • Platinum Stars has been a force to be reckoned with at home this season, winning 7 of their 8 matches so far.
  • Ajax Cape Town's away form this season does not inspire much confidence, as the side has lost 7 of their 9 away fixtures.
  • Head to Head, the Urban Warriors certainly has the historical advantage, with 8 wins against Dikwena, 3 losses and 6 draws.
  • The reverse fixture between the two sides ended 4-1 in favour of the Cape Town outfit in August last year.
  • The Urban Warriors has scored 24 goals against Dikwena in 17 matches, while the home side has only netted 13 times against their opponents.
