Despite not making the cut for the Afcon squad, Maritzburg captain and goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters, told Goal.com that he still wants a Bafana call-up
“It is always important to start on a high note, as I knew that AmaZulu were going to come hard at us, so I had to prepare myself, “said Walters.
Walters said his eyes are still on wearing the national jersey, and he wants his action to do the talking for him.
“I was quite disappointed for not making the Afcon squad, but I have not given up. I am working hard every day, and hopefully my time will come once again.
“As a goalkeeper it is always important to be alert because one mistake that you do, can cost the entire team. Not only that, but the players get their confidence from your performance,” he said.
Having been part of the 2010 Bafana squad, Walter said he knows how to work toward a new call-up.
"I think it is important to be consistant in all your games, so once that is done, you will be rewarded. A bit of luck also plays its role," he said.
Maritzburg will play their next game against Sundowns, and the goalkeeper said he is hoping to use that game as a way of proving to the nation, that he still has what it takes to make it back to the national side.
“It will not be an easy game. They are hungry for points, and they have quality players. This will be a great opportunity for me to play my part as the captain, and make sure that we maintain our position in the top five,” he said.
