Mamelodi Sundowns have officially signed Ghanian defender Rashid Sumaila, after he impressed the technical team during Sundowns tour in Zimbabwe last month.
Sundowns announced on their official website that Sumaila is now a Brazilian, although he will only join the rest of the team at the end of the season.
“He was given a trial run by coach Mosimane during Sundowns’ friendly tour of Zimbabwe, and impressed with his hard tackling and sturdy built, and impressed many of the Sundowns players on tour,” reads the statement on Sundowns’ website.
“Sumaila will join his new team-mates in June when he can be registered,” Sundowns said on their website.
Sumaila plays for Ghana Premier League side Ebusua Dwarfs, and he was also a member of the Ghana national Under-23 team that won the All-Africa Games gold medal when they beat South Africa 4 – 2 in a penalty shoot-out in Mozambique.
