Barker: Delighted with Wits opening win, but one result doesn't make a summer spoke with Bidvest Wits coach Clive Barker after Wits’ 2-0 win over Black Leopards on Tuesday night
Bidvest Wits kicked off 2013 with a 2-0 win away to Black Leopards on Tuesday night, and the result will come as a relief to the management who had to fire Antonio Lopez Habas after an unimpressive first half of the season.

Barker told that he is happy with last night’s result, and that he always believed in the squad that Bidvest had from the beginning of the season.

“I am happy with the result, as it was a good result away from home. We had to restart the season with a win, and I am glad my boys didn’t disappoint,” Barker told

“I always believed that Bidvest Wits had a group of talented players, so I was happy with how the team played last night, especially in attack,” he said.

Barker paid tribute to his technical team who worked hard during the Afcon break, and believes that they did a good job in maintaining the fitness of the players.

“My technical team did a good job in ensuring that the players are physically fit. There wasn't a sign of rustiness from the players,” said Barker.

The former Bafana mentor warned the players and the fans not to get carried away after last night’s match. He maintained that there is still a long way to go.

“It’s too early to say I am going to take Wits up there. One result doesn't make the summer. I believe there is still a long way to go,” added Barker.
