The PSL and Nedbank have renewed their partnership for the next 5 years after both parties were satisfied with the benefits reaped in previous years

In the official launch of the 2013 Nedbank Cup, Group Executive for Marketing, Communication and Corporate Affairs Thulani Sibeko, expressed his delight, on behalf of Nedbank.

“Tonight is very special because we are celebrating our six year anniversary (with the PSL),” said Sibeko.

Sibeko revealed that Nedbank will donate R8 000 for every goal scored in the tournament and that money will be used towards building a multi-purpose sports facility in a school still to be chosen.

“We will donate R8 000 for every goal scored during the Nedbank Cup and then choose a school where we will build a multi-function facility,” he said.

Moreover, Nedbank has come up with an initiative, in a form of a Television series, where amateur players will get a chance to compete against the next Nedbank Cup champions.

“Nedbank Ke Yona team will comprise of 18 players who will be selected from all over, 9 provinces through a new reality TV series. Anyone between 18-35 years of age can enter. The selected players will play against the next Nedbank Cup champions,” revealed Sibeko.

The deal sees Nedbank increasing the ultimate prize-money from R6 million to R7 million and a chance to take part in the African Confederations Cup.

PSL Acting CEO, Cambridge Mokonyane revealed that the league is looking forward to a successful partnership with the bank.

“As the league, we are looking to what is expected to be an exciting Nedbank Cup competition. Most of the clubs have had time to recuperate during the Africa Cup of Nations mini-break and we hope this will reflect in higher standards in the field. The PSL, together with its partners, are going to ensure the success of this tournament,” said Mokonyane.
