Mamelodi Sundowns signed former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni, to strengthen their injury hit squad and he will sit on the bench against his former club
Mamelodi Sundowns have taken a step forward towards solving their goalkeeping crisis, and on Saturday announced the signing of former under-23 and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni on a short term contract.
Ngobeni has been without a club since he was released by the Glamour Boys at the beginning of the season, but Thulani Thuswa confirmed to Goal.com that Ngobeni has found a new home at Sundowns.
“Thela Ngobeni is our player now. He signed until the end of the season, but we have an option to renew it for one year,” Thuswa told Goal.com.
The 24-year-old Ngobeni is seen as a back-up to first choice goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands, and Thuswa confirmed that Ngobeni will be on the bench in a league match against Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday.
“We needed to sign a goalkeeper because Calvin Marlin and Dennis Onyango are still sidelined, and we were going to have one goalkeeper against Chiefs, but we couldn’t take that risk. I can confirm that (Thela) Ngobeni will be on the bench on Tuesday,” added Thuswa.
