The South African midfielder was in inspired form during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and is attracting interest from other English clubs according to his agent
South Africa uncovered a new talent in the form of Dean Furman during their participation at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Furman’s midfield prowess and commitment on the pitch led South Africa to their first quarter-final appearance in the tournament since 2002.
Following Furman’s excellent performances in South Africa, there have been numerous plaudits being voiced for the player by leading pundits, including the BBC’s John Bennet, who stated on Twitter: “Doubt Dean Furman will be a [League] 1 player for much longer. [He] has been excellent for South Africa. Interest will be high in the summer.”
The Oldham Athletic returns to England with his side set to face Everton in an all-important FA Cup tie, which should allow the player to focus his attention on developing his status in England, which has already grown thanks to his involvement in the 2013 Afcon.
Matt Kleinman, Furman’s agent, has told MTNfootball that the player is attracting interest from various clubs in England, due to his performances which “exceeded our expectations.”
“He was really fantastic throughout the Africa Nations Cup and no doubt he has made many people take notice. It’s his off the field character as well as what he did on the field that has always made him a valuable footballer and we’re excited about the future,” Kleinman says.
Furman’s role, which is to control the heart of the midfield utilising his stamina and passing skill is a sought after position by most sides and Kleinman has stated that the player could be set for a move away from League One in the near future, but that there have been no concrete deals as yet.
“Look there has been interest in Dean from clubs in the Championship and in League One, but interest is one thing and it is another when there is actually something on the table,” Kleinman says.
“He is also contracted until the end of the season and his commitment is to his club Oldham.”
