Herve Renard names the defending Africa Cup of Nations champions final 23-man squad, leaving out three players

Zambia have named their final 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, while Herve Renard will be hoping his charges can improve upon their recent poor form

Zambia’s defence of the Africa Cup of Nations is in its final stretch of preparation as Herve Renard has announced his final-23 man squad who will be in charge of defending the crown they won against the odds in 2012.

Zambia have not enjoyed a stellar build-up to the tournament, losing their last four internationals, but have a chance to improve on these results with two warm-up games against Norway and Namibia still set to be played before they kick-off their Afcon tournament on the 21st of January against Ethiopia.

Chintu Kampamba, Salulani Phiri and Shadreck Malambo were all omitted from the squad and did not appear on the list submitted to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) on Tuesday.

Renard will hope for his side to improve upon their form as the tournament edges ever closer, as Zambia are set for tough assignments in the group stages against Nigeria, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso.
