In one of the biggest developments of the day, Soweto club Orlando Pirates are reportedly interested in Maritzburg United defender Mohammed Awal.
This could be an excellent signing of an experienced international defender who’s part of the celebrated Ghana national team’s provisional squad for the 2013 Acon.
Goal.com already reported Pirates coach Roger de Sa’s intentions to bring in a few players to bolster his squad. These intentions were mirrored by PSL leaders Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter.
In De Sa’s case he needs a bigger squad to compete on all fronts, considering that he also has to participate in the Caf Champions League. We’ve already linked Pirates with TP Mazembe midfielder Rainford Kalaba and Zimbabwe striker Roderick Mutuma. The latter could sign for Bloemfontein Celtic, who moved faster to invite Mutuma for a trial.
Malawian midfielder Josephy Kamwendo is another option to strengthen a squad that also needs to be mindful of covering up for short term injuries to the likes of Benni McCarthy.
Platinum Stars hope to keep up their outstanding first half to the season, by spending big with a R2million offer for Celtic’s Joel Mogorosi. They are also interested in surprise South Africa squad selection, the midfielder Thuso Phala who’s impressed coach Gordon Igesund.
