Bloemfontein Celtic coach Clinton Larsen says his team’s ambition is not to finish in the top eight this season they believe they can go as high as fourth in the standings.
“We believe we have a squad that is good enough, we just need to be more consistent,” he said as Celtic signed off the year by dropping two points at home in a 1-1 draw with Black Leopards on Wednesday night.
“We need a run of good results in games so that we can be up there and compete with the top teams. But the games are all very difficult.”
Celtic have already achieved a target for the season by winning the Telkom Knockout earlier this month, beating big spending Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.
But now Larsen wants them to concentrate on the league and get themselves up among the frontrunners.
Celtic’s highest ever finish was third place in 1985.
Since the formation of the Premier Soccer League, the club’s best return was fifth in 2010 in Larsen’s debut season as coach. Last season they finished eighth.
The coach is now in his third season with the club.
