Gordon Igesund to have a trio of wise men to scout on opposing African sides during the tournament
Bafana Bafana are to bring in two former coaches and an ex captain as scouts during the upcoming 2013 Afcon finals.
Coach Gordon Igesund has employed 1996 Nations Cup winning coach Clive Barker plus Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, who was Bafana coach in 2003 to prepare dossiers on the team’s opponents during the tournament.
Also working with the trio will be Neil Tovey, who lifted the Nations Cup as captain of Bafana Bafana in 1996.
Their job will be to watch prospective opponents at the tournament and provide Igesund with all the information he needs to plan for the matches at the finals, which starts next month.
In the beginning, the trio will keep an eye out on Angola and Morocco, who are opponents two and three for Bafana in Group A after their opening match against the Cape Verde Islands at Soccer City on January 19.
“We need all the expertise around us to be ahead of our opponents,” said Igesund, as he prepared for Saturday’s international against Malawi. “I am confident of the input the guys will bring me.”
