South Africans Abroad: Patosi and Ngcongca in titanic battle in Belgium

South Africans Abroad: Patosi and Ngcongca in titanic battle in Belgium

BELGIUM
Ayanda Patosi and Anele Ngcongca were involved in a titanic battle as Genk edged Lokeren 4-3 in the Belgian league on Sunday.

Patosi was again a star for Lokeren, setting up two goals as he hauled his side back to 3-3 after they had been 3-1 down in the second half. But Ngcongca’s Genk found a winner with five minutes to go to move within a point of third-placed Lokeren.
Darren Keet’s Kortrijk were beaten 2-0 at Charleroi, while Lance Davids was left out again for Lierse as they lost 3-0 at home to Mons. Daylon Claasen was not ready for action either.

ENGLAND

Former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar was his usual busy self for Everton as they held English Premiership champions Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at Eastlands.
It continues the good run of The Toffees against their big-spending rivals, having now won five and drawn one of the last seven meetings. Pienaar was lively, combining well with Leighton Baines on the left-hand side as he always does.

There was still no sign of Andrew Surman though as he continues to battle with a knee injury which saw him miss Norwich City’s 2-1 win over battling Sunderland on Sunday.
In the Championship, Kagisho Dikgacoi’s Crystal Palace returned to winning ways on Saturday as they beat fellow promotion hopefuls Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0.
The Eagles had taken just one point from their previous two matches against Leeds United and Hull City, but were dominant at home to Brighton. The result leaves them in second place, a point behind leaders Cardiff City.

Bafana midfielder Dean Furman helped his Oldham Athletic side into the third round of the FA Cup as they beat Doncaster Rovers 3-1. It was sweet revenge for Oldham, who had been beaten by Rovers in the league in midweek.

GREECE
Bongani Khumalo was restored to the starting line-up for PAOK as they were held 0-0 by newly-promoted Veria on Sunday to stay in second place.
PAOK played for 54 minutes with 10 men after a first-half red card, so perhaps it was a point gained, rather than two lost. They now sit 10 points behind leaders Olympiakos.

RUSSIA

Siyanda Xulu was left on the bench for Russian Premier League side FC Rostov again as they won 2-0 at Krylya Sovetov to continue their move up the table.

Rostov have won three and drawn one of their last four games and that has helped then climb away from the relegation zone and in to mid-table.
SLOVAKIA
It was not a good outing for Bafana Bafana left-back Ricardo Nunes on Friday night as he conceded a penalty as his Slovakian side Zilina lost 2-0 to Nitra. The result means Zilina drop to fifth, eight points behind leaders Slovan Bratislava.
