Moroka Swallows only won the MTN8 last month but the taste of trophy success obviously sits well with the club as coach Zeca Marques said they were now setting their sights firmly on the Telkom Knockout.
Swallows begin the campaign at the weekend with a tough away match in the first round against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
The game is on Saturday night, and according to the Swallows official site, Marques admits it will be a difficult outing: “It's a tricky encounter for us because they are playing well at the moment. I watched them play two games and they've really got class, so we're looking forward to the challenge.”
But having annexed the MTN8, with a 2-0 win over SuperSport United in September’s final at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Marques says his players have a new appetite.
"The Telkom Knockout is a trophy we want to take into our cabinet and we are looking forward to that and we've got to believe we can do it.
“The nice thing about being a champ is that you start behaving like a champ, you think like a champ and you act like a champ. There's a renewed spirit and belief in the team,” he said.
"We knew we would be playing a PSL team and any of the PSL teams are quality and you can't take anyone for granted, I just would have loved for the match to have been played at home but is a knockout.
“It all depends on who handles the nerves on the day and how you settle down into the match,” Marques added.
