Chiefs, Celtic to meet again

Top PSL sides will play each other again for the second time in just over a week
Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic will renew hostilities in the 2012 Macufe Cup to be played at the Free State Stadium on Sunday.

A pause in domestic league action for the international break this weekend will be partially filled by the now annual meeting between the two PSL sides.

It is an opportunity for Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter and his Celtic counterpart, Clinton Larsen, to keep their squads match fit in what has proved in the past to be a highly-competitive fixture.

AmaKhosi are the current holders after goals from Sthembiso Ngcobo and George Lebese saw them to a 2-1 victory last year. Nigerian forward Ezenwa Otorogu scored a late consolation for the home side.

This year’s Macufe Cup comes just a week after the team met in a league encounter in Port Elizabeth that ended in an entertaining 0-0 draw.

Celtic have not beaten Chiefs in a competitive fixture since 2009, their one success in that period coming in the 2010 Macufe Cup when they won 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Both squads will be without their international stars, with Chiefs most affected as goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, defender Erick Mathoho, midfielders Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Lebese, as well as forward Bernard Parker are all away with Bafana Bafana.
