Chippa to wear red of new corporate backers
Premier Soccer League new boys Chippa United will unveil Vodacom as a new sponsor when they take on Kaizer Chiefs at Soccer City on Saturday night.
They have signed a one season deal with the cellular provider and are being paid on a performance basis, according to owner Siviwe Mpengesi.
The club will wear a red kit, changing for their usual all-white colours, to mark the occasion. Red is the corporate colour of the cellular giant, who already sponsor Chiefs and the champions Orlando Pirates.
The ‘Chilli Boys’ were rapturous in celebration in midweek as they won their first ever PSL game despite being under the cosh for the most of the home match against Bloemfontein Celtic at a rain swept Athlone Stadium.
But they now have their sights set on a much bigger scalp at Soccer City tomorrow.
“Taking our first three points was a big morale boost for the club. It gives us a good platform to fight with this weekend. We are expecting a similar game to them we had against Celtic, who tried everything against us. But we managed to stop them,” said coach Roger Sikhakhane.
“Chiefs don’t do well against the newly promoted teams,” reminded Mpengesi.
