Former captain Jimmy Tau has joined Siboniso Gaxa as the latest injury victim at Kaizer Chiefs, leaving the right hand side of defence undermanned for the next weeks.
The 32-year-old Tau has suffered a toe injury which means he cannot replace right back Gaxa in the line-up for Saturday night’s Premier Soccer League encounter against new boys Chippa United.
Gaxa has pulled a ligament on the inside of his ankle and been told he could be out for as long as two months.
He suffered the injury in Mondays’ 3-1 victory over BidVest Wits at Nelspruit’s Mbombela Stadium, having only recently recovered from a similar injury on his other ankle.
Tau has not seen any action this season after going for an ankle operation at the end of the last campaign. He finished the season before electing to undergo surgery.
His left ankle has since healed but his return has been stymied by the toe problem.
Kgotso Moleko, recently signed from Bloemfontein Celtic, is likely to be given a starting role on Saturday on the right side of defence as Chiefs seek to keep up their early season lead.
