South African Keaghan Jacobs played for Scottish First Division side Livingston as they lost 3-1 away to Premiership Heart of Midlothian in that country’s league Cup competition.
More South Africans will be in action on Wednesday as domestic cup football is played across the continent.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Xulu will hope to debut for FC Rostov in Russia as they travel to second-tier Astrakhan, while Kamohelo Mokotjo could play for Feyenoord at NEC Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
There are also cup games to played in Belgium, with defending champions Lokeren hosting second tier Dessel Sport. South Africans Ayanda Patosi (Lokeren) and Masilo Modubi (Dessel) could come up against one another.
Darren Keet helped Kortrijk to the final last season and they start their campaign again this year with a trip to White Star Woluwé.
