It was honours even for Bafana Bafana teammates May Mahlangu and Tokelo Rantie when they met in a Swedish League clash on Monday.
Mahlangu’s Helsingborg hosted Rantie’s Malmo completed a 1-1 draw that leaves Malmo two points off the pace in the Allsvenskan with seven games remaining in the campaign.
Mahlangu steered the ship in midfield for Helsingborg and completed the game, while Rantie, who had been a big injury doubt before the game, came off on 66 minutes.
He had suffered the identical injury to his Bafana striking rival Dino Ndlovu, both forwards having dislocated their shoulders in recent weeks.
Rantie played with protection over the injured joint, but his mobility was restricted a little, though whether that was physical and mental only he will know.
Meanwhile, Thulani Serero limped out of Ajax Amsterdam’s disappointing 1-1 draw at ADO Den Haag on Sunday after just 20 minutes.
The Bafana player had been restored to the starting line-up after missing the midweek UEFA Champions League loss at Borussia Dortmund, but early in the game felt his groin and was replaced.
His compatriot Kamohelo Mokotjo was again on the bench for Feyenoord as they lost 3-0 at PSV Eindhoven.
Siyanda Xulu will have to wait to make his Russian Premier League debut for FC Rostov after he was left out of the match day squad for the 3-1 loss at Spartak Moscow on Sunday.
There is a chance he could feature in the cup game against lower league side Astrakhan on Wednesday, which would be seen as a gentler introduction for the former Mamelodi Sundowns man.
