Black Leopards host unbeaten Maritzburg United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in their Absa Premiership clash to be played on Tuesday night.
United have had an excellent start to the campaign, taking eight points from their first four matches after two wins and two draws.
That run includes a 2-1 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, a game which would have given a huge boost in morale to the Team of Choice.
Having signed a number of experienced players in the recently transfer window such as former Bafana Bafana winger Delron Buckley, Kaizer Chiefs playmaker Mthokozisi Yende, midfielder Orlando Smeekes, Orlando Pirates left-back Reuben Cloete and Ghana centre-back Mohammed Awal, the club is finding it easier to close out matches.
“The coach said he wanted to bring in some new players with a bit more experience and we can see the quality now in the team,” right-back Peter Petersen told the club’s website.
“In the defence we are working well together as a unit, getting to know each other’s play and I think we’ll get stronger as the season goes on and we’ll become a formidable unit.”
The signing of Buckley has been especially profitable so far and looks as though it may be one of the buys of the campaign.
“Delron has been a fantastic signing. It’s not just what he brings to match day, but it’s his all-round conduct, his influence on the training ground. He brings so much experience and even the older guys like myself are learning things from him every day.”
Leopards lost their first game of the campaign when they went down 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs last week, but will be confident of a result in Limpopo.
They have skipper Mongezi Bobe, their Player of the Season from the last campaign, back in action and he will provide creativity and goals from midfield.
In head-to-head stats, Leopards and Maritzburg have met in six league games since 2005/06 and Lidoda Duvha have three wins compared to one for the Team of Choice, while two matches have ended in draws. Maritzburg have never managed a win in Limpopo though.
