South Africa are negotiating the possibility of playing a friendly with Saudi Arabia next month.
The game on Tuesday October 16 would be either in Saudi or a neutral venue in Europe, officials said.
Bafana have been searching for an opponent for that date for several weeks now.
The national team have an away game against Poland in the provincial town of Bydgoszcz on Friday, October 12, but also the opportunity to play a second international four days later as stipulated on FIFA’s co-ordinated calendar.
SAFA had negotiations with Finland and Malta over a possible friendly but backed out because they were not offered a match fee. The federation is seeking a fee to cover the high costs.
The game against Poland is part of an agreement that saw the European country play a friendly in Soweto just before the 2010 World Cup
Bafana Bafana play a further four friendlies in November, December and early January as part of their preparations for the hosting of the next African Nations Cup finals.
Zambia will play in November but the other three opponents would only be decided after the draw for the Nations Cup is conducted in Durban on October 24.
