SuperSport suffer midfielder blow

Zambian Clifford Mulenga hobbles out of training on Wednesday
SuperSport United have been dealt a blow with the news that attacking midfielder Clifford Mulenga will likely miss the MTN8 final against Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

The Zambian left training on Wednesday on crutches having picked up a knock to his ankle and is almost certainly ruled out of the showpiece decider at the Orlando Stadium.

Mulenga joined SuperSport from Bloemfontein Celtic at the start of the campaign in a transfer that saw Ghanaian midfielder John Arwuah move in the opposite direction.

Although he has yet to start a game for Matsatsantsa, he has been highly effective off the bench, netting in the MTN8 semifinal, second leg win over Orlando Pirates, and then again in the 3-0 weekend victory over AmaZulu.

His goals from midfield have been a boost for a side that have generally battled to score this season and he will be sorely missed against The Birds.

The 25-year-old picked up the knock at training on Wednesday and was immediately taken for an ice-bath to try and contain the swelling.

The injury will be assessed through Thursday, but it will take a miraculous recovery for him to feature in the MTN8 final.

SuperSport are seeking their first win in the competition since 2004, but having claimed the 2012 Nedbank Cup are on course for back-to-back knockout trophy wins.
