Maarten Stekelenburg worries that momentum will be lost
The Urban Warriors beat Platinum Stars 4-1 in their last outing on August 31, but the international break means they will have to wait until Sunday’s visit to Bloemfontein Celtic for their next game.
It has been frustrating for Stekelenburg, who will know that whatever momentum his side had built up with the excellent win over Stars will likely have dissipated.
“I said after the last game, it seems a long time away from PSL football, it will be 16 days that we could not play football,” the Dutch coach says. “And after this game we have another 10 days off because of the MTN8 final. The schedule is very inconsistent. We were very happy with the performance and the result against Stars and when that happens, you want the next game to come quickly.
“But we have used the time properly and we are looking forward to playing Celtic. It is a difficult game, we played a good match there last year but lost 4-2.”
Stekelenburg will have goalkeeper Sander Westerveld back from injury, but is still without Lebohang Manyama, Thulani Hlatshwayo (both injured), as well as new Brazilian signing Wanderson, who is waiting for his work permit.
