Bafana comeback kid Lerato Chabangu has tied up a new two-year deal with Moroka Swallows, officials confirmed on WednesdayThe new contract was concluded before the start of the new season last month but details have only just been released. It follows in the wake of Chabangu’s return to the Bafana Bafana line-up after a four-year absence.
He played as a substitute last Friday in the friendly away against Brazil and was in the starting line up on
Tuesday night as South Africa beat neighbours Mozambique 2-0 in Nelspruit.
The new contract and return to national team duty come as a massive fillip to Chabangu who just over a year ago looked to be out of the game as he battled with alcoholism and persistent knee problems.
Chabangu last played for South Africa against Sierra Leone in a World Cup qualifier in Atteridgeville in June 2008 before winning his 15th cap last Friday in Sao Paulo. It came four years, two months and 15 days after his last international.
He has already won three man-of-the-match awards this season and helped Swallows to the MTN8 final against SuperSport United later this month.
