Moroka Swallows Zeca Marques will not be taking newly-promoted University of Pretoria lightly

Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques says he has warned his players not to take newly-promoted University of Pretoria lightly when the teams meet in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night.

After a shaky start to the campaign that included a 3-1 loss to Platinum Stars in their League opener in early August, The Birds have recorded League wins over Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates, and also reached the final of the MTN8 competition.

But although his team will be expected to brush aside AmaTuks, Marques says there is a solidity about their opponents.

“They have a very solid squad and that is thanks to the work that [AmaTuks coach] Steve Barker has put in,” Marques says. “They have got two draws and a win so far, which is a great start for a team in their first season in the top-flight.

“They seem to me to have a real hunger to prove that they belong in the Premier League, that they deserve to be here, and that makes them dangerous. They will be up for it against us, I have no doubt, because they know what a confidence boost it would be for them to beat us.

“So we will be vigilant, stick to our guns and execute as best we can.”

Swallows will assess the toe injury to star striker Siyabonga Nomvete on Thursday before making a final decision on whether he will play any part in the game.

AmaTuks won their last away match in the Absa Premiership, a 1-0 success at Lamontville Golden Arrows, to go with draws against Maritzburg United and Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.
