Ajax Cape Town completed the signing of Brazilian youngster Wanderson Costa Viana from Olympiakos on Tuesday
The Cape Town Psl team is looking to boost their attack by using the teenager’s highly rated ball skills and speed. The Brazilian arrived in the Mother City last week, where he signed a contract to join Urban Warriors.
The 18-year-old Wanderson will take the fifth foreign spot in Ajax’s squad, providing more talent to their attack already complemented by the exciting and skilful Zimbabwean teenager, Kharma Billiat.
Ajax resisted buying Nigerian centre back James Okwousa and off loaded George Akpabio to Vasco da Gama in order to save a place for the talented attacking midfielder.
He impressed during a trial at Urban Warriors and received praise from Coach Maarten Stekelenburg.“He is a nippy, creative, a very exciting and skilful player in the same mould as Billiat.”
Originally Wanderson’s move was stalled due to his price, however Ajax benefitted from the sale of Thembinkosi ‘Terror’ Fanteni to Wits and Brendon Carelse’s recent move to Chippa United, which paved the way for the arrival of the new signing.
The Brazilian joined Olympiakos in 2007 and made his debut for the club in 2009. He was originally spotted by the Greek giants at a youth tournament in Brazil. Olympiakos sent Wanderson on loan to Doxa Dramas in the Greek League in order to gain some invaluable experience.
He was released by the club however and Ajax has seized the opportunity to add his extra attacking flair to their squad. Ajax’s chief executive officer George Comitis commented on new signing,
“Wanderson has a great first touch complimented with fantastic dribbling skills, agility and he can fit into our attacking style of play.”
