The Dutch Eredivisie top scorer says the Super Eagles of Nigeria deserve Sunday’s 2-1 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations

Cote D’Ivoire striker Bony Wilfred, who was part of the squad that unexpectedly crashed out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday following a 2-1 loss to Nigeria, said the Super Eagles were the better side and thus deserved to move on in the tournament.

The 24-year-old, who plays for Vitesse, said Nigeria were superior on every side and unrolled a more collective performance than the Ivorians, who were highly tipped to carry the day.

“I believe the Nigerians deserve to win because they played better,” the forward told Goal.com. “I witnessed that they were playing more collectively and cutting us off. That was the first time I’m seeing Nigeria play like that recently. There was no way we could have overcome that kind of play.”

“We did our best but they were more agile and creative. Now, I believe we have to immediately plan for the future. There is no need to get frustrated. Football has it rules and that is it,” he said.

Bony has been linked to a move to Newcastle United in the Premier League, but he refused to comment on the issue.
