Igesund: I selected players with character who could fight for their country

Proud Bafana coach Gordon Igesund spoke briefly to Goal.com about his players strong character, and his aim to focus on Mali first
From day one coach Gordon Igesund believed that his squad would source his dream team and never regretted any player omissions for the Afcon.

“When I selected the squad, I was not concerned about big names or favourites, but my main focus was on players who show character. If you look into the crop that we have, you will realise that our players have the fighting spirit.

“I want players who will fight till the end and take ownership throughout the whole game and take pride of playing for the country,” said Igesund.

During the Morocco game, Igesund's players were unconvincing in defence, which might be exposed going into the Mali game. Igesund said he knows there were mistakes but he wants to focus on the positives and build from there.

“I think what is important at this moment is to focus on the next match. What makes me happy above all is that all the players that I selected did not disappoint me, but they showed that fighting spirit,” said Igesund.
