Excellent positioning and highly effective ball distribution once again set Bafana keeper Itumeleng Khune apart from his peers, in the 2-0 victory against Angola at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Wednesday.
The Bafana number one goalkeeper who is fondly known as ‘Mzansi’s number one’ told Goal.com that he wants to maintain his high standards.
“I am very excited, not only about my performance but the way we performed as a team. Keeping a clean sheet is great because it gives you more confidence going into the next match and you are able get your players behind you and motivated,” Khune told Goal.com.
Khune has not conceded a single goal in the 2013 Afcon so far.
“I think communication between myself and my defenders is very clear and that makes my job a bit easy. I think it was also important for us to score because that broke the ice. Now, everyone is looking forward to getting back on their feet,” he said.
In their next group stage match, Bafana will take on Morocco who will need to win, but Khune said he is still confident that he will do his best to make the country proud.
“It is important that I am always at my peak. As much as I would like to keep clean sheets throughout the entire tournament, my focus is still on the group stages and if I can carry that to the knockout stages, then that will be a bonus to me,” said Khune.
