Siyabonga Sangweni's opening goal for South Africa has inspired the entire nation. He told Goal.com that he knew he was going to score
During the game there were shouts of 'siyabonga' and finally the nation seemed to be united at the 2013 Afcon, bringing back doubtful fans from his club Pirates.
“I told my teammates before the match that, I was going to score and eventually it happened. I really feel proud to being the chosen one to score the opening goal for Bafana in this Afcon. I think this also got the rest of my teammates fired up, because we needed to score so that we can ease the pressure,” said Sangweni.
The Orlando Pirates defender was playing in his home town of Durban.
“It is always great playing at home, because you get all the support you need and there is just something about Durban, it has its way of bringing out the best in me,” he said.
Team work and ball possession was much better in this game and Sangweni said they had been working very hard from the mistakes that they had made in the previous matches.
“Honestly speaking it was hard work that won us this match. Every player showed commitment and we told ourselves that we are going there to fight.
"By the way I was not prepared to embarrass myself by losing at home, everyone had sacrificed everything just to witness us playing. In the next match we need to stay focused and continue pushing hard, and not let this victory get over our heads,” he said.
