2013 Afcon: We’ve learnt lessons from DR Congo draw – Kwesi Appiah

The four-time African champions have been doing self assessment over the last few days after giving up a two-goal lead in their opening match against the Leopards

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah said the Black Stars are now focusing on how to win their next game against Mali and have put behind that 2-2 draw game with DR Congo.

The four-time African champions were two goals up in their opening Group B game against the Leopards, but the Congolese fought back to equalise leaving both sides with just a point.

Coach Appiah is optimistic the lessons learnt will go all the way to lift morale in camp as they prepare to face the Eagles of Mali in their second game at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

“We need to concentrate on the game ahead of us,” Appiah said. “And we started the psyching already and everything is working very well.”

“It’s always good that you look at your team and look at where there are loopholes and stop them from scoring,” he said.

“Once you are leading and concede two goals, it’s not the best but normally what you need to do is to psyche everyone up.

“It’s important that whatever happens, you put it behind and look forward to the next game, which is very, very important. You learn from it and develop from there.”

Ghana’s next game against Mali is on Thursday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
