Chief Nonkonyana: Ethiopian fans’ behaviour was uncalled for and Caf will deal with it
Chief Mwelo Nonkonyane told Goal.com that they are unhappy with the behaviour produced by Ethiopian fans against Zambia at the Mbombela Stadium on Monday
In an exclusive interview with Goal.com South Africa, the chairman of the 2013 Afcon Local Organizing Commitee, Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana revealed that they condemn the behaviour of the Ethiopian fans. The Ethiopians started throwing missiles after their goalkeeper, Jemal Tassew, got himself a red card following a horrible challenge on Zambia’s Chisamba Lungu in the first half.
“It was uncalled for, the LOC condemns such behaviour because this is the kind of behaviour that could ruin the excitement of the tournament,” said Nonkonyana.
“Hence, the matter will be forwarded to Caf to deal with and we are sure that we will know the outcome soon,” revealed the chairman.
The Safa vice-president though admitted that the Ethiopian national team officials have not been informed about the discipline, because the match commissioner still has to submit his match report.
“They haven’t received any formal letter as yet because the match commissioner still has to compile and submit his report on yesterday’s match, but I am sure they know that they are in hot water, ” explained Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana.
