Goal.com South Africa caught up with minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula before the opening of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
Goal.com: Take us through your emotions right now how are you feeling about hosting such a prestigious event?
Mblalula: I am very excited and cannot wait for the kickoff. It will not be the first time that South Africa is hosting big events and this just goes to show that we are capable of delivering.
Goal.com: From the governments perspective how ready are you?
Mbalula: We have done everything in our powers to ensure that this event becomes a success, just like how we did it during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Goal.com: How far do you think Bafana will go?
Mbalula: Chief, I can’t believe you asked me that question. Well we are going to win the Afcon, there is no debate about that.
Goal.com: Is there any player from the Bafana team that you will be looking out for?
Mbalula: No, I think every player will do well and they need to play as a team and know that there is no individual glory.
Goal.com: There has been a lot of negativity going around the country about the national team, what would you say about that?
Mbalula: People must go all out and support the national team. These boys need their support.
Goal.com: What would be your advice to the team?
Mbalula: Go out there and play as a team. Use home ground advantage and make sure that the trophy stays here in South Africa.
