I’m focusing on winning the 2013 Afcon trophy for Ghana now – Derek Boateng

The player has rubbished reports he had wanted to skip the Nations Cup to prove his allegiance for newly-signed Fulham

Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng said winning trophy with the Black Stars at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations is what is occupying his mind now.

Boateng was reported to have clinched a deal with English Premier League side Fulham to turn his back on Ghana for the Nations Cup. However, the player has reiterated his commitment to the four-time African champions.

“Since I arrived here I have left behind all the thoughts of Fulham and concentrating on how to help the Black Stars win the trophy,” Boateng told the Ghana FA official website.

“Those reports that I have reached a deal to skip the Nations Cup are not true otherwise I won't be here training with my colleagues.”

Boateng added: “I am fully committed to Ghana and currently I am only thinking about the Black Stars and how to do something special for the country.”

The Black Stars are currently camping in Abu Dhabi with two warm up games lined up against Egypt and Tunisia before departing to South Africa for the continental showpiece.
