thumbnail Hello,

Al Ahly scored two second half goals to beat Pirates 2-0 in the final of the Caf Champions League played at the Arab Contractors Stadium on Sunday night

Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa congratulated new African champions Al Ahly for successfully defending their Caf Champions League title on Sunday.

The Egyptian giants beat Pirates 3-1 on aggregate to clinch their eighth Caf Champions League title, and De Sa believes that Al Ahly were deserved winners.

“I want to congratulate Al Ahly. They were deserved winners tonight (Sunday). They were clinical, played a tight game and they took their chances,” said De Sa after the match.

The Pirates tactician also expressed his disappointment of the score, despite creating numerous chances that could have ended up in the back of the net, but he still feels his players gave it their all.

“We are disappointed. We know it could have been achieved. The players still believed in themselves. We weren’t outplayed in the four games against them (Al Ahly).”

He added: “We can come back. We played very well and it all comes down to the chances we created. If we buried them then it’s a different story.”

De Sa also heaped praise on Al Ahly veteran forward Mohamed Aboutrika who opened the scoring in the 54th minute to send Cairo wild.

“Aboutrika was always a problem for us. He’s a quality player, but so is their number 11 (Waleed Soliman) and a few others. As a team Al Ahly are very good,” concluded De Sa.
