Orlando Pirates host Zamalek in a Caf Champions League Group A match on Saturday night, with the Buccaneers remaining intent to stay on top following their unbeaten start to the group stages.
Pirates drew 0-0 with AC Leopards and achieved a historic 3-0 victory against Al Ahly, putting them on the summit of Group A with four points and a greater goal difference than AC Leopards.
Zamalek have had a disappointing start to the group stages, drawing with rivals Al Ahly in Egypt and then losing against AC Leopards in the Congo.
However, the Egyptian giants will be no easy task for Pirates. New striker Lennox Bacela is expecting a tough assignment for his side on Saturday night.
“This is going to be a tougher game than the one against Al Ahly, who underestimated us when we went to play them in Egypt. Now all the other clubs know and respect Pirates after what we did to Al Ahly,” Bacela told reporters.
“We expect Zamalek to fight like wounded tigers as they are still chasing their first win in this tournament, but we will push them deeper into the mud. Our plan is to win two more games to end with a minimum of 10 points, which will guarantee us a place in the semifinals.
“The challenges will be massive when we travel to Egypt for the return match, so it is important that we win all our matches at home.”
Thandani Ntshumayelo remains a doubt for the match due to an ankle injury, while Collins Mbesuma has already been withdrawn from the squad.
