Goal spoke to Manchester City's 22-year-old midfielder Jack Rodwell at the end of the English Premier League clubs South African tour in Durban
The former Everton teammate of South Africa's Steven Pienaar, midfielder Rodwell was impressed with the pre-season test Manchester City earned against PSL clubs SuperSport United and AmaZulu on tour.
“Things are looking good. We had a great, challenging time with our new manager (Manuel Pellegrini). I think when the season re-opens we will be ready to play as a team.
“I am hoping that this season I can stay injury free so that I will be able to do well for the club,” said Rodwell.
The English midfielder admitted that there is pressure on his club to win trophies next season.
“Our new manager Manuel Pellegrini is a committed man and he wants to get the best out of each and every player. I am hoping that we will finish in the top position of the log under his guidance as a manager," he said.
Rodwell was signed from Everton as a talented young player, hoped to turn into an important England international in future. That could be a difficult task at City where he has to compete with star internationals from top national teams.
“I think everyone has a chance to prove himself and that is what I am hoping to do. Man City is a big club with many players and I believe that to be in the starting line-up, you need to earn your place."
