A consortium of Australian sport event specialists will produce the 2015 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup opening ceremony.
The two-party consortium consists of Twenty3 Sport & Entertainment and Spinifex Group. The pair has previously collaborated on major opening ceremonies including the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
The consortium will reportedly produce other creative elements of the tournament, in addition to handing the opening ceremony.
Local organising committee chief executive, Michael Brown, said: “Coordinating and delivering the various creative and activation elements of the tournament across five cities is no small task, however, the Twenty3-Spinifex team have the experience and skill needed to bring the AFC Asian Cup to life off the pitch.”
John Tripodi, head of the Twenty3-Spinifex consortium, added: “We’re delighted to have been selected to work with the LOC on an event presentation strategy and delivering a football experience with a difference.”
The opening ceremony is due to be staged at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium immediately before the opening game, which sees Australia entertain Kuwait on the ninth of January. It is the first time that the international soccer tournament, which involves 16 teams, will be hosted outside of Asia.
