MediaCom Sport will work with FC Barcelona and Brazil star Neymar’s management to ‘explore commercial opportunities’ over the next three years.

Neymar becomes the second soccer star on MediaCom Sport’s roster, joining legendary former player Pelé.

22-year old Neymar is widely-anticipated to be the Brazilian team’s talisman as the country hosts the Fifa World Cup in June.

A statement from MediaCom Sport on Thursday said that the firm ‘believes Neymar offers a strong and relevant proposition for leading brands, allowing them to connect with consumers through one of the most recognised personalities in the world’s most-followed sport’.

It is understood that MediaCom Sport will be pitching on a non-exclusive basis. London-based investment fund Doyen Group, which agreed an image rights deal for Neymar outside Brazil last May, and has been working closely with Neymar’s family-run management company since then, will receive a revenue share on any deals MediaCom strikes for the player.

Since signing Pelé in early 2012, MediaCom Sport has brokered deals for the three-time World Cup winner with the likes of Procter & Gamble, Volkswagen, Coca-Cola and Subway.

“We know from working with Pelé that marketers understand how an association with football can enhance their brand,” said Marcus John, MediaCom Sport’s global head of sport.

“Neymar Jr will add a new dimension to a brand’s appeal as part of a fully integrated media strategy.”

Neymar was ranked as the world’s most marketable athlete by SportsPro in 2012 and 2013.
