Spanish soccer giants FC Barcelona have launched an official club account on Chinese social networking site Sina Weibo.
The club is hoping to boost its profile in the country by giving the site’s 500 million users the opportunity to access exclusive content and pictures via the newly-created profile.
To celebrate the launch of the new account, the reigning La Liga champions are offering followers the chance to win one of three limited edition Barcelona home shirts which display the Chinese New Year logo on the left sleeve.
The club’s director of communications, Dídac Lee, commented: “We want to make Barça a football icon in China.
“To establish bonds of relationship with our fans around the world is a club priority. The launch of the official account on Sina Weibo allows us to connect with the millions of Chinese who support Barça from a distance”.
