The German Football League (DFL) has moved to further enhance the Bundesliga’s global appeal by agreeing a deal with YouTube that will lead to the launch of its first official channel on the video-sharing platform.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the DFL said an in-house editorial team will produce video clips with English-language commentary on a daily basis for the new channel, along with 20 different videos per week that are individually adapted for fans in different countries.

Content will include the top five goals from a Bundesliga match day and classic moments from the league’s history.

Stephen Nuttall, senior director of sports for YouTube EMEA, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer Bundesliga highlights to YouTube’s international football audience, who can now enjoy watching many of the world’s best players from Germany’s top division. YouTube is a destination for goals and highlights and this deal adds another top league to YouTube’s football offer.”
