German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 has signed a “long-term” partnership with the Kentaro agency in a bid to strengthen its international presence.
Schalke, which is currently 14th in the Bundesliga table, said the partnership will lead to the formation of an annual pre-season tournament at its Veltins Arena home. Kentaro will also organise friendlies for the club against top teams in Europe and further afield.
Alexander Jobst, head of marketing for Schalke 04, said: “Our intention is to expand the international presence of Schalke 04 – we have a very large number of fans not only in Europe but also in international countries. Central to this internationalisation process will be global TV visibility for a high-profile tournament in our Veltins Arena at the end of the pre-season, as well as selected tours in target markets, also in cooperation with the DFL (German Football League).”
Kentaro’s Stefan Fueg added: “We see great growth opportunities for Schalke 04 outside of Germany. We will support that with worldwide TV coverage of Schalke 04’s top-class season opening tournament in Gelsenkirchen. Speaking from experience, we would expect to distribute such an event live in more than 160 countries.”
