The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has signed up telecommunications operator Airtel as the title sponsor of the I-League’s 2013-14 season.
The deal, brokered by the IMG-Reliance agency, was agreed after the AIFF came in for criticism due to its failure to secure a sponsor in the lead up to the new season. However, AIFF general secretary Kushal Das said: “The deal between AIFF and Airtel proves there are many takers for Indian football.”
AIFF president Praful Patel added: “All India Football Federation stays committed for the uplift of the sport in the country and we hope this marks the beginning of a new and long relationship.”
Airtel enters into its partnership with the AIFF after it last week opted against renewing its title sponsorship agreement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a deal which covered all home internationals and domestic competitions.
