The Austrian Football Association (OFB) has agreed a new sponsorship deal with T-Mobile ahead of the national team’s crucial 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against neighbours Germany on Friday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the telecommunications giant will become an official partner of the OFB and national team. T-Mobile will offer 100 roaming minutes for fans travelling to the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer, and this figure will be doubled to 200 minutes should Austria qualify for the tournament. Additionally, T-Mobile will engage with fans through a range of initiatives, starting with the opportunity to win tickets for the sold-out home World Cup qualifier against Ireland on September 10 through its official Facebook page for the Austria national team.
OFB president Leo Windtner said: “The OFB signing the second largest mobile phone company with 4.1 million customers is a double win. On the one hand, the company fits in perfectly with the sponsorship portfolio of OFB and will bring significant added value for many football fans of the national team. On the other hand, T-Mobile is an international, innovative company that will give the largest domestic sports association very important support for its development.”
Austria heads into Friday’s game in Munich five points behind leaders Germany in second-place in Group C of European qualifying. Austria has reached the World Cup seven times, but last qualified for the tournament in 1998.
