Soccerex would like to congratulate GoalControl GmbH and Brazilian winery Lidio Carraro who have recently been announced as the official goal line technology providers for the 2013 FIFA Confederations CupTM and prospectively the 2014 FIFA World CupTM and the official licensed wine for the FIFA World Cup 2014™.

After exhibiting at the Soccerex Global Convention in 2012, GoalControl were selected to in one of the biggest contracts in the history of world football. The German based real-time image analysis experts used the Convention as a platform to demonstrate their technology to the world of football and meet key FIFA decision makers.

The GoalControl-4D system works with 14 high-speed cameras (7 per goal) around the pitch at the stadium roof/catwalk. A powerful image processing computer system, which tracks all movement on the pitch, removes the players, referees and all disturbing objects leaving just the ball. The system knows the balls three dimensional x-, y- and z-position with a precision of a few millimetres in the coordinate system of the pitch. When the ball passes the goal line, the system sends a vibration- and optical signal to the officials´ watches.

In another landmark deal the boutique Brazilian winery, beat off competition from larger rivals to be the official wines supplier for the FIFA 2014 World Cup. The young and vibrant company from southern Brazil, Serra Gaúcha, who has a long list of international recognition in Europe and the USA, attended Soccerex in 2011 and 2012, where they was able to meet and develop relationships with the key decision makers of the 2014 FIFA World CupTM.

The relationship began in 2011 at Soccerex where the winery was able to make contact with the key FIFA licensing officials and begin their relationship ahead of the tournament, further meetings at the 2012 event allowed Lidio Carraro to meet their contacts at FIFA in a centralised environment. It allowed for the final stage of meetings to take place ahead of the announcement of the FACES project, the name of the wine that will represent Brazil in the biggest sports event of the world.

Patrícia Carraro, Marketing and Export Manager said: “Attending Soccerex was essential to the achievement of Lidio Carraro becoming the official licensed wine for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, because it was where the first contact between the winery and FIFA occurred in November 2011, where we were presenting the company and offering tasting to some of our wines. Our results were achieved and our expectations were met, meaning we will be continuing our partnership and cooperation with Soccerex.”
